Art walk 2012 fine arts festival for Montego Bay

The first ever “Art Walk” fine arts festival in Montego Bay, Jamaica West Indies is slated for Saturday March 31, and Sunday April 1, 2012. The event, hosted by Elgosart Gallery begins each day at 10:00am and ends at 7:00 pm, and set for 31 Gloucester Avenue, Montego Bay St. James and at the former Native Restaurant Building.
This art event is in commemoration of Jamaica’s 50th independence celebrations. Artists from across Jamaica will be participating, and admission will be free to the public. Fine arts, sculpture, pottery and other consumer items will also be on sale. Interestingly, many of the artists will actually be creating art works at the event. For this special occasion, artists have been asked to reduce their art values giving consideration also to the current world economic situation.
Featured artists include: World celebrated master artist the most Honorable Fulbright Professor of arts Barrington Watson, Ted Williams, Owen Beckford, Elgo, Crown, Jeffery Samuels, Opio, Symister, Allan Richards, Errol Walker, Edward Powell, Lennox Coke, Alphanso Blake, Gunter, Amoreth Tucker, Edmundo Souza, Sharon Martini, Rohan Pearson Cafari, Ryan Pearson Fari, Jeffery Perry, Charmaine Gonzales, (Wife of Christopher Gonzalez), Winston Clarke, Sharon Fox Mould, Lisa Lej, Evonnie Saunders, (Haiti), Anthony B, Devon Harvey, Lattecha Willocks, Edward Channer, Peter Peart, Yulandae Gordon, Ray Jackson and others. Participating galleries are Creative Framing, Jacqui’s Treasures, Saba Art Gallery, Elgosart Gallery.
The festival will showcase a high quality eclectic collection of modern art. The styles will vary from classical types of fine art to the contemporary. Most of the artists to be exhibited are trained at the prestigious Edna Manley School of Visual and Performing Arts in Jamaica. Others have attended other international art institutions. Well known folklorist Fern Lueke will be performing and noted play director and actor Douglas Prout will perform a short skit from the award winning play “White Witch”.
Children from some of the less privileged areas will have their faces painted and will also be mentored by some participating artists who will help sensitize them in appreciating the arts.
